RIU Hotels & Resorts is building its first hotel in Mazatlan, a major tourist centre on Mexico's Pacific shores. The 4.5 star, 716-room Riu Emerald Bay, which will be built by the firm itself, is slated to open in May 2009.

This all-inclusive hotel will offer an assorted variety of culinary choices at its main restaurant, which features a buffet and live cooking, and its Mexican, Italian and steakhouse restaurants. A wide array of water sports and activities such as diving, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing will also be available at the new resort, which boasts tennis courts and beach volleyball as well. All the rooms will have sliding panels and can be opened up into one large, 480-square meter room.
